Before the arrival of a family, A HOPE volunteers clean the apartment and furnish it fully with donated items. An average family of 6 members needs a sofa, a loveseat, a coffee table, a side table, a TV, DVD player, laptop or desktop computer, TV stand, 2-3 lamps, 1-2 floor rugs, dining table with 6 chairs, kitchenware (cooking pots, pans, toaster, microwave, plates, glasses, cups, spoons, knives, forks, spices/condiments), 1 full-size bed, 4 twin beds (or bunks), bureaus/drawer chests, and bathroom items. Additional items include a portable clothes washing machine, at least one bike for transportation, 2-3 fans, at least 1 air conditioner and space heater.
Upon arrival, every family is treated to a culturally-appropriate warm meal, and their fridge and pantry are stocked with at least one-week worth of food items.
We estimate that a family of 6 members would require approximately $2000 to $2500.
Instead of a one-time contribution to welcome the family, generous donors can sign-up to pay for a utility or phone bill, or simply contribute on a monthly basis to any of the family’s other needs.
